“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” — Proverbs 31:8 (NIV)

This verse hits me right in the heart—because for me, it means kids.

Foster kids. Youth group kids. Daycare kids.

Kids who feel voiceless, scared, or unseen.

Kids whose stories are heavy and hurting.

Over the years, I’ve had kids come to me with things they should have never had to carry—stories of abuse, trauma, or self-harm. And in those moments, I knew: they couldn’t speak up for themselves. But I could.

This verse is part of why I became a foster parent. I wanted to be a safe place. I wanted to be a voice. I wanted to be someone who stood in the gap when life felt too big for the little ones.

And maybe for you, this verse means speaking up for someone else—

The homeless.

The elderly.

Victims of domestic violence.

A friend who’s afraid to ask for help.

A child who hides their pain behind a smile.

Who in your life is God calling you to speak up for?

Don’t underestimate your voice. God gave it to you on purpose. Use it.

Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to the ones You want me to speak up for. Give me the courage to step in when others stay silent. Use my voice to bring hope, help, and healing. Amen.
